The BAC District Council of West Virginia has a need and an opportunity to develop both the size and strength of the West Virginia masonry industry. The need arises from the essential fact that its members depend on the masonry industry for their livelihoods. The opportunity derives from its leadership position as the strongest and best-organized masonry organization in West Virginia. Through its support and partnership with the International Masonry Institute (IMI) - a labor/management trust fund established in 1970 - its leadership has pursued its industry development objectives through several major programs.

*  Market development, advertising and technical services that are supported through IMI by the largest professional staff of architects and engineers in the masonry industry. IMI staff provides counsel and support in the design and construction of masonry systems and buildings and work with owners, developers and architects throughout West Virginia and Maryland.
 
*  Apprenticeship and training is the largest programs. Pre-job training for apprentices and advanced and upgrade training for journeyman and journeywomen in all areas of the masonry trades.
 
*  Maintaining the largest pool of available skilled bricklayers and craftworkers. Skilled craftsmen and craftswomen have the knowledge and ability required to perform work on any project.
